In issue 03/2023 of “Mensch und Automa­tion”, we present some of the future topics at Pilz. Our 75th birthday is a really good oppor­tu­nity to look ahead. Very top­ical: How do arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence and safety fit together? And with topics such as IO-Link Safety and Indus­trial Secu­rity, we are also looking to the near future.
But how does arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence itself see the future of safe automa­tion? Our cur­rent cover pic­ture pro­vides the answer, as it was cre­ated by the AI appli­ca­tion Stable Dif­fu­sion.

Safely into the future

The automa­tion world is changing. Now more than ever. Key­words such as Indus­trial Secu­rity, Arti­fi­cial Intel­li­gence (AI), as well as open­ness and stan­dard­i­s­a­tion, are hot topics. A standard for safe communication

Safety delivered promptly

“On our plants, it is not a case of inte­grating a light bar­rier some­where or other. Instead, it’s impor­tant to also con­sider the pro­duc­tion envi­ron­ment and to safely manage human-machine inter­ac­tion”, says Andreas Stummer, CTO of the Aus­trian spe­cial pur­pose machine builder SRW. For him, how­ever, this is just one of many rea­sons for the long-time coop­er­a­tion with Pilz.

Strong market for mobile robotics

For Pilz Spain, founded in 1992, long-ter­mism is what mainly counts, both with cus­tomer rela­tions and with regard to its mis­sion to foster a safety cul­ture in the country. Every year, the sub­sidiary trains more than 600 machine man­u­fac­turers and oper­a­tors in machinery safety. In view of the increasing trend towards mobile robotics, Pilz in Spain is bundling its exper­tise in that area.

What’s the situation with CE?

On 20 Jan­uary 2027, the Machinery Reg­u­la­tion will replace the long-standing Machinery Direc­tive. From this key date, dec­la­ra­tions of con­for­mity must meet the new require­ments. Training and ser­vices from Pilz help machine man­u­fac­turers and oper­a­tors with the new route to CE marking.
