Issue 3/2023
We are looking to the future!

In issue 03/2023 of “Mensch und Automation”, we present some of the future topics at Pilz. Our 75th birthday is a really good opportunity to look ahead. Very topical: How do artificial intelligence and safety fit together? And with topics such as IO-Link Safety and Industrial Security, we are also looking to the near future.
But how does artificial intelligence itself see the future of safe automation? Our current cover picture provides the answer, as it was created by the AI application Stable Diffusion.

A standard for safe communication

A genuine milestone en route to open communication standards: with IO-Link Safety, a non-proprietary, standardised communication system for functional safety is available for the first time. At SPS 2023, Pilz will be presenting something new on the market: a complete system with Master and sensors – an economical and flexible solution.

The future is formed through cooperation

Where the future is concerned, Pilz not only looks to exchange with customers, but also works intensively with research initiatives. But the secret recipe for successful research is not digitisation …

Comprehensive service for Industrial Security

Increased cyber attacks, security requirements in the new Machinery Regulation and manipulation protection – pressure is growing on industry to deal with Industrial Security. But where to start? And how to implement it? In Germany, Pilz is launching the Industrial Security Consulting Service.

3 minutes with …
… Rami Aro

Rami Aro is Vice President Region Europe Central/East and therefore responsible for the activities of the Pilz subsidiaries in this region. In our “3 minutes with …” column, the Swiss gives an insight into his work and how he sees the automation market in Europe.

Safety delivered promptly

“On our plants, it is not a case of integrating a light barrier somewhere or other. Instead, it’s important to also consider the production environment and to safely manage human-machine interaction”, says Andreas Stummer, CTO of the Austrian special purpose machine builder SRW. For him, however, this is just one of many reasons for the long-time cooperation with Pilz.

How do I find the right safety locking device?

There is a wide range of movable guards on plant and machinery – from small covers to large, accessible gates. But how can you reliably protect human and machine? In three simple steps, we’ll show you how to find the right safety locking device for each application.

Strong market for mobile robotics

For Pilz Spain, founded in 1992, long-termism is what mainly counts, both with customer relations and with regard to its mission to foster a safety culture in the country. Every year, the subsidiary trains more than 600 machine manufacturers and operators in machinery safety. In view of the increasing trend towards mobile robotics, Pilz in Spain is bundling its expertise in that area.

What’s the situation with CE?

On 20 January 2027, the Machinery Regulation will replace the long-standing Machinery Directive. From this key date, declarations of conformity must meet the new requirements. Training and services from Pilz help machine manufacturers and operators with the new route to CE marking.
