“Safe & easy complete solution for packaging machinery”

The mod­ular sort packer from A+F Fördertechnik & Automa­tion is designed to repackage trays filled with single-variety del­i­catessen salads so that they appear in a “colourful” mix of vari­eties on the tray or on the super­market shelf. A+F dis­cov­ered that the safety solu­tion “behind” this pack­aging machine could “only be found at Pilz”.

Textbook retrofit

Presses have a spe­cial status when it comes to safety require­ments. Grass GmbH, global man­u­fac­turer of move­ment sys­tems for fur­ni­ture and house­hold appli­ances, was aware of this while looking for a partner that would be able to update “slightly” older plants to the cur­rent state of the art in com­pli­ance with stan­dards. In Pilz Aus­tria, the Salzburg-based com­pany found a partner who could “com­plete the job in text­book fashion.”

“On our plants, it is not a case of inte­grating a light bar­rier some­where or other. Instead, it’s impor­tant to also con­sider the pro­duc­tion envi­ron­ment and to safely manage human-machine inter­ac­tion”, says Andreas Stummer, CTO of the Aus­trian spe­cial pur­pose machine builder SRW. For him, how­ever, this is just one of many rea­sons for the long-time coop­er­a­tion with Pilz.

A manager for intralogistics

In coop­er­a­tion with the start-up NAiSE GmbH, Pilz offers the world’s first traffic and order man­ager for all par­tic­i­pants in ­intral­o­gis­tics – for people as well as trans­port sys­tems. With this, Pilz is expanding its offer for safe appli­ca­tions of auto­mated guided vehicle (AGV) sys­tems.

Going with the flow

Auto­mated guided vehicle (AGV) sys­tems coast through the ware­house, inde­pen­dently pick up goods at point A and unload them again at point B. To ensure every­thing flows smoothly, safe scan­ners, safe analysis units and an indus­trial fire­wall are also on board.

Packaging – I trust you!

Open for efficiency

In one-second inter­vals, the puller pulls in the pre­punched card­board blanks and the tray former from Sema Sys­temtechnik GmbH folds, glues and seals these to form fin­ished outer pack­aging. The inter­esting part: the card­board blanks func­tion as a mov­able guard. If the mate­rial feed runs empty, how­ever, the oper­ating per­sonnel can reach right inside. For this reason, a TÜV Süd cer­ti­fied safety solu­tion guar­an­tees safety in every work step.

Full speed ahead

Everyone is talking about the Mobility Turn­around, meaning that railway oper­ating com­pa­nies around the world are facing the chal­lenge of digi­tising the entire rail net­work over the coming years. The aim? Railway oper­a­tions should become safer, better, simply rev­o­lu­tionised for cli­mate-neu­tral mobility. Pilz is there­fore expanding its product range for rail­ways and, with the estab­lish­ment of the Busi­ness Unit Rail, is bundling its global railway activ­i­ties.

Quantum leap for safety

Once upon a time … In the early days of con­trol tech­nology, relays and con­tac­tors con­trolled plant and machinery. If there were any devices at all for shut­ting down or for pro­tecting people, they would sep­a­rate the actu­ator from the power supply as nec­es­sary.

In the press brakes from the press man­u­fac­turer Bystronic, the camera-based pro­tec­tion system PSENvip has for years been used in com­bi­na­tion with the automa­tion system PSS 4000 from Pilz to ensure safe, effi­cient and user-friendly processes. With the module for bending angle mea­sure­ment for PSENvip 2 newly devel­oped by Pilz, Bystronic is once again expanding the scope of its safety system.
