Jimmy Ji Myung Han is Business Development Manager at Pilz.
What are you working on at Pilz?
My main responsibilities include the development of our semiconductor and battery businesses. I’m working to expand Pilz’s presence in these two areas globally. I’ve also been a Product Marketing Manager in the Asia-Pacific region for over five years. Semiconductors and batteries are strongly represented in Asia. I can now apply the knowledge I have acquired globally.
What role does automation play in battery production?
Automation is a basic requirement in many industry sectors, particularly in the manufacturing industry and therefore also in battery production. It uses a large amount of chemical substances. As these can be toxic or explosive and therefore dangerous for human, environment and machine, safe automation solutions are required. We offer a whole range of products, systems, services and training.
What is special about the industry? What experiences has Pilz had in the meantime?
As I mentioned earlier, the industry is booming in Asia, particularly in China and Korea. These countries currently lead the market, but Europe and the USA are catching up. The global demand for batteries for e‑mobility is high. To meet this demand, many companies are setting up manufacturing sites in the EU and USA. This means that production lines that were built in Asia are being relocated. So line or machine builders have to deal with international compliance issues, such as CE marking. In this case Pilz can offer international conformity, with advice on CE marking and IC-USA, for example. Our customers benefit from the fact that we can operate and provide support worldwide, thanks to our global network. We have also discovered that many customers, including end users and machine builders, want to work with us because of our reputation as “Machinery Safety experts”. In this respect, we are helping to ensure that batteries can be manufactured Safely and Securely worldwide.
