Dear Readers,
In Europe, losses caused by cybercrime amount to billions every year. That’s why the mechanical engineering sector is constantly working on solutions that improve the cyber resilience of supply chains and products today and into the future. Safety and Security demonstrate many parallels, with risk management in particular stimulating both disciplines: this is the only way to quantify the effectiveness of Safety or Security measures and the exploitability of vulnerabilities.
“I’m convinced that industry will master the challenges of Security in the same way they did with Safety.”

This will become a key task for product security, at the latest when the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) 2027 becomes mandatory. Component manufacturers, integrators and plant operators alike should prepare for this. There are different methods available, depending on whether you wish to sell thousands of catalogue items or specialist machinery within the EU. The CRA also applies to non-European companies that wish to place their products on the EU market in future.
I’m convinced that industry will master the challenges of Security in the same way they did with Safety – and ultimately, a sophisticated Security concept will become a competitive advantage: financially motivated cybercriminals will simply look elsewhere.
Yours
Maximilian Moser
