IO-Link stands for pow\u00aderful stan\u00addard\u00adised (IEC 61131\u20139) con\u00adnec\u00adtion tech\u00adnology in the field of point-to-point com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion \u2013 inde\u00adpen\u00addent of fieldbus and system. The advan\u00adtages of IO-Link are sim\u00adpli\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions during instal\u00adla\u00adtion (e.g. through stan\u00addard\u00adised cabling and the elim\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion of par\u00adallel wiring), auto\u00admated and tool-sup\u00adported para\u00admetri\u00adsa\u00adtion as well as extended diag\u00adnostic options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In order to also be able to use IO-Link for safety-\u00adre\u00adlated automa\u00adtion tasks, Pilz and the other part\u00adners in the IO-Link com\u00admu\u00adnity have been working inten\u00adsively on the cor\u00adre\u00adsponding exten\u00adsion over the last few years with the asso\u00adci\u00adated tests and cer\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions. At the SPS exhi\u00adbi\u00adtion in Nurem\u00adberg at the end of last year, the first multi-vendor demon\u00adstra\u00adtion with IO-Link Safety was pre\u00adsented. Pilz and other man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adturers demon\u00adstrated the options and capacity of IO-Link Safety live on site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The demon\u00adstra\u00adtion was par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlarly suc\u00adcessful at showing the mixed com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion mode in which safety-related as well as stan\u00addard data are exchanged with the same IO-Link device simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adously. This makes IO-Link Safety very pow\u00aderful, which is why it is used for safe drives, gate locking and con\u00adtrol and signal device boxes, among other things. The non-safety-related func\u00adtions can be pro\u00adgrammed as usual while only the safety func\u00adtions have to be con\u00adtrolled and mon\u00adi\u00adtored by the fail\u00adsafe pro\u00adgram of the PLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe res\u00ado\u00adnance at the SPS exhi\u00adbi\u00adtion was entirely pos\u00adi\u00adtive,\u201d cel\u00ade\u00adbrates Dr Wolf\u00adgang Stripf, Overall Project Man\u00adager of IO-Link Safety in the IO-Link com\u00admu\u00adnity. \u201cWith the demon\u00adstra\u00adtion we were able to answer ques\u00adtions regarding the inde\u00adpen\u00addence of field\u00adbuses and the com\u00adplete\u00adness of the system including test facil\u00adi\u00adties,\u201d he adds. At the Han\u00adnover Messe, the IO-Link Safety com\u00admu\u00adnity will expand the demon\u00adstra\u00adtion plant from the SPS. In the mean\u00adtime, the pro\u00adce\u00addure for the nec\u00ades\u00adsary tests and the safety cer\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion have been clar\u00adi\u00adfied with the respon\u00adsible noti\u00adfied bodies. The require\u00adments are thus sat\u00adis\u00adfied, allowing Pilz to now also use IO-Link Safety prod\u00aducts in prac\u00adtice.
