Mr Bukowski, what, to your mind, is the biggest change?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

J\u00fcrgen Bukowski: It is not one big change, but rather the sum of all the changes. For example, design spec\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions were refined, require\u00adments for appli\u00adca\u00adtion soft\u00adware and the man\u00adage\u00adment of func\u00adtional safety were expanded and the val\u00adi\u00adda\u00adtion spec\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions were adapted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the deter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adtion of the required per\u00adfor\u00admance level (PLr), there are now refined spec\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions for the risk para\u00adme\u00adters. In order to be able to pre\u00advent haz\u00adards and the prob\u00ada\u00adbility of their occur\u00adrence, in future man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adturers and oper\u00ada\u00adtors will have to define in more detail, among other things: At what speed does the hazard occur? Or: What options are there for avoiding the hazard? What prac\u00adtical expe\u00adri\u00adences with Safety have already been had with regard to the process? Is the machine oper\u00adated by trained and suit\u00adable oper\u00ada\u00adtors? With or without super\u00advi\u00adsion? Small but impor\u00adtant details have been added here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does this mean for machine manufacturers and operators?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

They are required to reassess safety func\u00adtions. In addi\u00adtion, the final draft stip\u00adu\u00adlates a safety require\u00adments spec\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion (SRS) for the clear descrip\u00adtion of safety func\u00adtions \u2013 with doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion of all details that are required for safe and cor\u00adrect per\u00adfor\u00admance. The doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion can also help oper\u00ada\u00adtors to achieve a clear under\u00adstanding of all safety func\u00adtions in their machine during reg\u00adular inspec\u00adtions and checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are doing it for the first time \u2013 yes. With a little sup\u00adport and prac\u00adtice, how\u00adever, many spec\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions can be applied again. Machine man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adturers also have more flex\u00adi\u00adbility. Every safety func\u00adtion can be imple\u00admented through the com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of sev\u00aderal sub\u00adsys\u00adtems. These are either avail\u00adable as sub\u00adsys\u00adtems already val\u00adi\u00addated by the man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adturer or are designed as new sub\u00adsystems by the machine man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adturer or inte\u00adgrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When is it necessary to act?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

It is far from clear whether there will be a tran\u00adsi\u00adtion period after pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtion of the stan\u00addard in the EU Offi\u00adcial Journal and if so, how long this might be. For this reason, design engi\u00adneers and oper\u00ada\u00adtors should swiftly address the planned changes. The ear\u00adlier, the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
