Within the Heineken Group, Wiesel\u00adburg is the site of Brau Union \u00d6ster\u00adreich at which the most beers with 0.0&nbsp;per\u00adcent alcohol are pro\u00adduced. In total, the brewery fills its prod\u00aducts into 130 dif\u00adferent types of pack\u00adaging. For example, there is a sep\u00ada\u00adrate filling plant for the so-called BLADE kegs for 8 litre counter-top dis\u00adpensers (see photo).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Automatically clean<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSafety first\u201d is one of the prin\u00adci\u00adples of the \u00adWiesel\u00adburg brewery. It is imple\u00admented in a wide variety of areas in prac\u00adtice \u2013 starting with the pro\u00adduc\u00adtion facil\u00adi\u00adties and ranging to ergonomics at the work\u00adsta\u00adtion. In order to live up to this key com\u00adpany objec\u00adtive, the brewery strives to main\u00adtain the state of the art, even if the Aus\u00adtrian indus\u00adtrial code or the Aus\u00adtrian Health and Safety at Work Act have not yet deter\u00admined any need for con\u00adver\u00adsion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this vein, the retrofit of the barrel cleaning and filling plant for BLADE kegs was \u201cvol\u00adun\u00adtary\u201d: The plant removes beer residues from up to 700&nbsp;kegs per hour, cleans them with an acid, rinses them sev\u00aderal times with water, ster\u00adilises them and refills them under CO2 coun\u00adter\u00adpres\u00adsure. Using a con\u00adveyor system, the empty bar\u00adrels are fed to a filler carousel, are auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally cleaned and are then trans\u00adported out via a roller con\u00adveyor. The filling process is per\u00adformed in the same manner. The carousel is also the core of the plant for this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety for Beer &amp; Co.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The plant has been in oper\u00ada\u00adtion since 1993. As part of the plant con\u00adtrol system retrofit, inter\u00adven\u00adtion options on the machine were to be re-assessed and val\u00adi\u00addated, among other things. \u201cThere are up to 20 kegs in cir\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adtion on the filler and even up to 24 kegs on the cleaner, which adds up to an impres\u00adsive weight \u2013 espe\u00adcially with 50 litre kegs,\u201d explains Andreas Schmutz, Head of Plant Tech\u00adnology in the Wiesel\u00adburg brewery. Because the com\u00adpany has already worked with Pilz on pre\u00advious projects, the Aus\u00adtrian brewer once again put its trust in the exper\u00adtise of the automa\u00adtion spe\u00adcialist for this project: From con\u00adsul\u00adtancy on the cur\u00adrent stan\u00addards that must be com\u00adplied with, to a review of the existing safety equip\u00adment and E\u2011STOP chain, Pilz also analysed all poten\u00adtial hazard sources. The rec\u00adom\u00admen\u00adda\u00adtions included appro\u00adpriate inter\u00adlocking devices and a tai\u00adlored safety con\u00adcept for the plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group mgznkr-elements mgznkr-box is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pilz-magazine.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/06\/Pilz-Andreas-Schmutz_Retrofit_Brauunion_Wieselburger-300x290.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-663\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Andreas Schmutz,<br>Head of Plant Technology<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne always keeps learning, but if you don\u2019t work with the safety com\u00adpo\u00adnents that are avail\u00adable on the market on a day-to-day basis while also keeping an eye on the var\u00adious devel\u00adop\u00adments and laws, it is hard to stay up to date. That\u2019s why we trust Pilz\u2019s know-how and expe\u00adri\u00adence in this respect. The experts have detailed knowl\u00adedge and think on<br>our behalf, just as we would expect from a reli\u00adable and trust\u00adworthy partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practicable too!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to safety aspects, the goal is often mas\u00adtering the bal\u00adancing act between a safe and a prac\u00adti\u00adcable solu\u00adtion. This was also the case here. \u201cThe safest option would nat\u00adu\u00adrally be to enclose every\u00adthing and lock it up, but that just doesn\u2019t work in prac\u00adtice,\u201d states Andreas Schmutz, addressing the neces\u00adsity of inter\u00adven\u00adtion options for main\u00adte\u00adnance and repair pur\u00adposes. On the barrel cleaning and filling plant, for example, it is impor\u00adtant that part of the pro\u00adtec\u00adtive wall can be removed without much effort so that once a year an employee can advance with a fork\u00adlift to the fluid dis\u00adtrib\u00adutor in the centre for ser\u00advice oper\u00ada\u00adtions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to meet this require\u00adment, the deci\u00adsion was made to use mobile rail\u00adings. The solu\u00adtion also includes a new access man\u00adage\u00adment system. This makes sure that only the autho\u00adrised oper\u00adator actu\u00adally has the oppor\u00adtu\u00adnity to acknowl\u00adedge a fault that has been rec\u00adti\u00adfied on the plant or to return the system to oper\u00ada\u00adtion \u2013 manip\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion or incor\u00adrect oper\u00ada\u00adtion are hereby ruled out. Adding to this, the orig\u00adinal light cur\u00adtains were replaced by rail\u00adings. The pri\u00adority here was prefer\u00adably using safety devices that were already in stock for other machines to avoid an unnec\u00ades\u00adsarily com\u00adpli\u00adcated spare part man\u00adage\u00adment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trust unites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pilz\u2019s con\u00adsulting port\u00adfolio, from an analysis of poten\u00adtial hazard points, including defined coun\u00adter\u00admea\u00adsures, through to imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion and safety-\u00adre\u00adlated val\u00adi\u00adda\u00adtion in accor\u00addance with inter\u00adna\u00adtional safety direc\u00adtives and stan\u00addards such as ISO&nbsp;13849, IEC&nbsp;62061 and IEC&nbsp;61508, was prac\u00adti\u00adcally fully utilised.
