The tray former 1200 s from Sema Sys\u00adtemtechnik, a man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adturer of plant and machinery for the semi\u00adfin\u00adished goods and pack\u00adaging industry, pro\u00adduces up to 60 trays per minute. Cas\u00adsettes that can be exchanged quickly and easily enable format changes at ultra-fast speed and thus high flex\u00adi\u00adbility. The machine starts when the stack of pre\u00adpunched blanks in the feed mag\u00ada\u00adzine has reached a depth of at least 80 mil\u00adlime\u00adtres. The vacuum-driven puller pulls the card\u00adboard blanks in and presses them onto the car\u00adrier of a toothed belt. In the sub\u00adse\u00adquent pro\u00adduc\u00adtion steps, the tray former folds, glues and seals the blanks in one-second inter\u00advals. Once formed, the trays are car\u00adried on a con\u00adveyor either directly to the filling sta\u00adtion or for onward trans\u00adport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of the gaps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In reg\u00adular oper\u00ada\u00adtion, the card\u00adboard blanks \u00adfunc\u00adtion like a mov\u00adable guard. Because as long as mul\u00adtiple card\u00adboard blanks cover the feed opening, the oper\u00adator is unable to reach into the danger zone while the machine is run\u00adning. If the mate\u00adrial feed runs empty, how\u00adever, this pro\u00adtec\u00adtion is no longer afforded. If blanks are smaller than the opening of the tray former, the area not cov\u00adered is sealed by a Plex\u00adi\u00adglas pane made to the pre\u00adcise con\u00adtours. This is replaced without the use of tools and scanned by the manip\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion-proof coded RFID sensor safety switch PSEN\u00adcode from Pilz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A certified overall package<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It became clear from the risk analysis that an effec\u00adtive safety solu\u00adtion restricting nei\u00adther the oper\u00adator nor the process had to be found for the case that there is \u201cno card\u00adboard in front of the feed opening.\u201d Sema chose an inte\u00adgrated, T\u00dcV S\u00fcd cer\u00adti\u00adfied safety solu\u00adtion for PL d and Cat. 3 of EN ISO 13849\u20131 or SIL CL 2 of EN IEC 62061 from Pilz. In the mean\u00adtime, two dif\u00adfuse sen\u00adsors at the mate\u00adrial feed per\u00adma\u00adnently mon\u00aditor the pres\u00adence of card\u00adboard blanks. The sen\u00adsors have to be located 30 mm to 100 mm away from the card\u00adboard stack, which allows flex\u00adi\u00adbility in posi\u00adtioning. If the sen\u00adsors don\u2019t scan any\u00adthing, the safe small con\u00adtroller PNOZ\u00admulti 2 brings the \u00adhaz\u00adardous move\u00adment of the machine to a safe stop. Once the card\u00adboard has been replen\u00adished, the machine can be restarted after con\u00adfir\u00adma\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trusting cooperation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have been relying on the robust and reli\u00adable prod\u00aducts from Pilz for more than ten years already. The small con\u00adtroller mon\u00adi\u00adtors mul\u00adtiple card\u00adboard feeds at the same time with just one base unit. Only the nec\u00ades\u00adsary hard\u00adware inputs and out\u00adputs have to be con\u00adsid\u00adered in the con\u00adfig\u00adu\u00adra\u00adtion. The func\u00adtion blocks for the eval\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion are included in the soft\u00adware tool PNOZ\u00admulti Con\u00adfig\u00adu\u00adrator. If the sen\u00adsors are oper\u00adated in com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion with PNOZ\u00admulti 2 or the new kind of mod\u00adular safety relay myPNOZ, the users can be con\u00adfi\u00addent that this T\u00dcV S\u00fcd cer\u00adti\u00adfied solu\u00adtion for com\u00adpact pack\u00adaging machinery meets all safety require\u00adments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safe, but with room for manoeuvring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The solu\u00adtion removes the need for rigid pro\u00adtec\u00adtive devices such as tun\u00adnels, while the blanks can be flex\u00adibly reloaded from both sides. To \u00adpre\u00advent the machine moving need\u00adlessly to a \u201csafe stop\u201d, a light sensor installed at the feed \u00admag\u00ada\u00adzine acts as a noti\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sema recog\u00adnised that the focus is increas\u00adingly being placed on effi\u00adcient safety solu\u00adtions for end cus\u00adtomers.
