They are not always tar\u00adgeted attacks from out\u00adside; internal manip\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion can also damage machinery. Leg\u00adis\u00adla\u00adtors have recog\u00adnised the impor\u00adtance of secu\u00adrity. This is reflected in the new Machinery Reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion, for example: In order to import machinery into Europe, machine builders have always had to undergo the con\u00adfor\u00admity assess\u00adment pro\u00adce\u00addure, ending with the CE mark. In accor\u00addance with the new reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion, machine builders must prove that their machines are not only func\u00adtion\u00adally safe, but are also pro\u00adtected against manip\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion. The stan\u00addards and laws for machinery safety in an indus\u00adtrial envi\u00adron\u00adment are cur\u00adrently facing upheaval. This is being driven by the issues of Secu\u00adrity and Arti\u00adfi\u00adcial Intel\u00adli\u00adgence (AI). For industry in gen\u00aderal and mechan\u00adical engi\u00adneering in par\u00adtic\u00adular, there are three new or upcoming legal require\u00adments for secu\u00adrity that are rel\u00ade\u00advant: the EU Direc\u00adtive NIS 2, the new Machinery Reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion and the Cyber Resilience Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In com\u00adpar\u00adison with the pre\u00advious direc\u00adtive, NIS 2<\/strong> affects more com\u00adpa\u00adnies, extends the oblig\u00ada\u00adtions and pro\u00advides for stricter sanc\u00adtions. Com\u00adpa\u00adnies that fail to take mea\u00adsures are threat\u00adened with severe penal\u00adties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n The Cyber Resilience Act<\/strong> is directed toward man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adturers of prod\u00aducts with dig\u00adital ele\u00adments. They should only be allowed to place prod\u00aducts on the market that guar\u00adantee an appro\u00adpriate level of cyber\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adrity. The reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion is due to be adopted at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n From Jan\u00aduary 2027, the Machinery Reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion <\/strong>will replace the existing Machinery Direc\u00adtive and, in con\u00adtrast to its pre\u00adde\u00adcessor, makes cyber\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adrity manda\u00adtory. For this is the first time a spe\u00adcific require\u00adment will be set, and a frame\u00adwork spec\u00adi\u00adfied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because machinery in future no longer needs to be just Safe, but also Secure, Eisen\u00adhuth and his team will offer a ser\u00advice to advise and sup\u00adport com\u00adpa\u00adnies on Indus\u00adtrial Secu\u00adrity. This will be avail\u00adable ini\u00adtially in Ger\u00admany, but will be offered world\u00adwide from next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pilz has devel\u00adoped the Indus\u00adtrial Secu\u00adrity Con\u00adsulting Ser\u00advice, building on the proven method\u00adology for machinery safety ser\u00advices and based on the secu\u00adrity stan\u00addard series IEC 62443.
